OC Test Preparation Tutors
Tailored 1-on-1 Tutoring for Students Preparing for the OC Test
WHAT IS OC?
Opportunity classes (OCs) are located in government primary schools and cater for high achieving Year 5 and Year 6 students. These classes help gifted and talented students to learn by grouping them with other gifted and talented students and using specialised teaching methods and educational materials at the appropriate level.
Parents normally apply for OC when their children are in Year 4. The OC is a two-year placement program throughout Years 5 and 6 at a primary school with an OC. Most students who accept a place in an OC will leave their current school to attend the school with an OC.
HOW DO I GET INTO AN OC?
To gain entry into OC, students must sit the annual Opportunity Class Placement Test held in designated test centres. The Opportunity Class Placement Test is written by the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER). The test does not normally contain any questions used in previous tests and measures ability rather than performance on the school curriculum.
The test comprises multiple-choice questions in English, Mathematics and General Ability.
PREPARATION FOR OC PLACEMENT TEST
To feel more comfortable with the test process, students should be informed about the format and duration of the test and the types of questions asked. Sample tests are available to help students become familiar with the test format.
We recommend specialised 1-on-1 tutoring for a year leading up to the test to ensure your child is very familiar with the format and content of the test. In addition, we recommend working through more challenging example tests than those provided by ACER, which more closely resemble the actual OC Placement Test.
